Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion
Teaching with Inclusivity at the Forefront
I create and implement inclusive activities by diversifying my materials, connecting with students, and creating flexibility in my courses. For example, I select readings from a variety of scholars based on race, gender, and age (graduate student versus senior scholar), survey student interests and select materials based on those interests.

Conducting Research that Aims to Make Education More Equitable - Recruiting a Diversity of Perspectives
With much of my research examining how to improve student learning, I take particular interest in understanding how these different approaches unfold in different communities. What are the normative practices? How can we overcome bias and create more equitable environments for student learning? To help guide these investigations, I actively seek to work with researchers and students from a diversity of perspectives.
A recent paper that highlights some of this work was recently published in Child Development called “More than growth mindset: Individual and interactive links among socioeconomically disadvantage adolescents’ ability mindsets, metacognitive skills, and math engagement.” https://doi.org/10.1111/cdev.13560
